The Democratic Rally (DISY) and the Cypriot government strongly condemned an incident of vandalism at the party’s headquarters on Pindarou Street, with both labeling the act as an attack on democratic values.
In a statement released Saturday morning, DISY said the damage, caused by unknown individuals, was not only criminal but “a direct assault on democracy and political dialogue.” The party declared that “Democracy is neither afraid nor blackmailed,” and called on authorities to identify and prosecute those responsible.
Government Spokesperson Konstantinos Letymbiotis echoed the condemnation, stating that “violence has no place in our society” and emphasizing the importance of peaceful political discourse. “Whoever resorts to violence and vandalism is not expressing disagreement. They are attacking democracy itself,” he said in an official post.
Despite the strong reactions, police reported Saturday evening that no evidence of malicious intent has been identified so far. Investigators are continuing to review CCTV footage, with conclusive results expected within the next day.
Authorities remain focused on determining the exact nature of the incident, while DISY reaffirmed its commitment to democratic values and respectful political engagement.
