Electricity Authority of Cyprus crews have been mobilized across the island as severe weather continues to trigger repeated power network faults, according to the organization’s spokesperson, Christina Papadopoulou.
Speaking to the Cyprus News Agency, Papadopoulou said that since Tuesday evening strong winds and particularly intense lightning have caused multiple low-voltage disruptions in the districts of Nicosia, Limassol, and Paphos. While many of the incidents have already been repaired, new outages keep emerging as the extreme conditions persist.
The storm has also led to infrastructure damage, including the collapse of two electricity poles—one in Souni and another in Kambos, Tsakistra. Additional faults have been reported in several areas, including along the road to Troodos and in Gourri, Athalassa, and Geri. A medium-voltage fault was also recorded on Wednesday morning in Limassol district.
Papadopoulou emphasized that repair teams remain on standby and are working continuously to restore supply as quickly as possible, though ongoing harsh weather is making access and repair operations more challenging.
