A delivery driver, a pedestrian, and two motorcyclists lost their lives in a string of tragic accidents.

Cyprus is waking up to yet another grim reminder of its dangerous roads, as four lives were lost in a series of fatal crashes within just a few hours, turning what should be a reflective and peaceful Holy Week into a tragic one.

Fatal road accidents were reported across Larnaca, Limassol, and Nicosia between Tuesday night and dawn on Maundy Thursday, in a wave of deadly incidents that has left families grieving and authorities scrambling for answers.

Tragedy at 1:15 a.m.: 23-Year-Old Killed in Larnaca

Angelos Adamou, just 23 years old, died when he lost control of his motorcycle on Griva Digenis Avenue in Larnaca at around 1:15 a.m. on Maundy Thursday.

The young man from Aradippou crashed first into the sidewalk and then into a nearby bus stop, where he was found immobilized. He was rushed to Larnaca General Hospital, but doctors could only pronounce him dead.

Police suspect speed was a factor. “Initial assessments suggest he was driving at a very high speed,” said Larnaca police spokesperson Christodoulos Consolos. The bus stop where the 23-year-old was thrown into/ Source: CNA

Delivery Driver Killed in Limassol

Just a few hours earlier on Wednesday night, a 34-year-old delivery driver lost his life after a collision at the busy junction of Omonia and Paphos streets in Limassol.

According to police, the driver of a car—a 38-year-old man—crashed into the electric bicycle the delivery man was riding. The driver was arrested and tested positive in a preliminary drug screening. Investigations are ongoing. The electric bicycle that the 34-year-old was riding / Source: CNA

Elderly Pedestrian Killed in Nicosia

Earlier on Wednesday morning, 69-year-old Michalis Christoforou from Agrokipia was struck while trying to cross Limassol Avenue near Nicosia General Hospital.

He was hit by a motorcyclist while using a pedestrian crossing. Both were taken to the hospital, but the elderly man did not survive his injuries.

First Fatal Crash in Oroklini

The string of tragedies began Tuesday night in Oroklini, Larnaca, where 57-year-old Petros Christodoulou was killed after his motorcycle was struck by a car driven by a 46-year-old British tourist on Christou Afxentiou Avenue.

The tourist was arrested, and a Larnaca court has ordered his detention for six days as the investigation continues.

A Grim Pattern

These deaths, spanning three cities and involving both young and elderly victims, are part of a heartbreaking trend. Whether it’s excessive speed, careless driving, or substance use behind the wheel, the road remains one of Cyprus’s deadliest battlegrounds.

Authorities are again urging drivers to respect traffic laws and approach the road with care, especially during this Easter season when traffic is heavier and tempers shorter.
