Brits heading to China no longer need a visa, for trips of up to 30 days, that is. The UK government confirmed the change Tuesday during Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer’s visit to Beijing, after talks with President Xi Jinping.
Until now, a Chinese visa cost over £100 and took about a week to process. Now travelers can book a short getaway or business trip without the paperwork hassle, putting the UK on par with countries like France, Germany, and Italy.
Starmer says it’s a big win for businesses looking to expand in China. “Companies have been crying out for ways to grow in China,” he said. “Relaxed visa rules will make that easier and create jobs at home.”
The two countries are also exploring a formal services agreement for UK firms and signed a new partnership to boost collaboration in healthcare, education, finance, and more.
With China as the UK’s third-largest trading partner, this move could open doors for both tourists and businesses eager to tap into one of the world’s fastest-growing markets.
