Greece-France defense agreement for the acquisition of new frigates and corvettes for the needs of the Navy, is expected to be announced tomorrow, ending a multi-year standstill. Tomorrow morning, the Minister of Foreign Affairs Nikos Dendias and the Minister of Defense Nikos Panagiotopoulos will be in Paris, who will sign the relevant agreements as co-responsible ministers.
This package also includes all the weapon systems that these ships can carry.
As for the part of the defense agreement, this will contain elements of a mutual defense assistance clause. This is a debate that has been taking place between the two countries for the last five years, and its success comes at a time when Athens is actively supporting the Paris plan for strategic autonomy of Europe.
As far as the Navy is concerned, the discussions between Athens and Paris concern the supply of "FDI" frigates and "Gowind" type corvettes.
This package also includes all the weapon systems that these ships can carry.
While the details of the deal are still being determined at a technical level, the government spokesman essentially confirmed the deal by answering a question with the phrase "have a little patience".
