Higher than normal temperatures and heatwave episodes are expected for the rest of July until almost the mid of August, according to the Cyprus Department of Meteorology and the Climate Watch of the German Meteorological Service (DWD) for the eastern Mediterranean region.
As stated in a relevant announcement, "heatwave episodes are expected with temperatures frequently exceeding 40 degrees Celsius".
It is added that DWD's Climate Watch is acting on behalf of the World Meteorological Organization (WMO).
It is reported that the times when the very high temperatures occur are between 11:00 and 17:00.
In the press release, the public is urged to monitor the bulletins issued by the Department of Meteorology on a daily basis, as well as the relevant warnings.
Furthermore, attached to the press release is the medium-term forecast showing above normal temperature characteristics for the eastern Mediterranean, resulting in prolonged very high temperature conditions.
