More than 600 aircraft are expected to land and take off from the illegal airport in Tymbou between December 30, 2025, and January 4, 2026, as airlines ramp up flights for the New Year holiday rush.

According to reports in the occupied north, the company operating the airport, T&T, said a total of 638 flights are scheduled during the six-day period. Turkish Airlines, Pegasus, AJet and SunExpress have all increased their flight schedules to meet holiday demand.

The busiest days are expected to be Friday, January 2, and Sunday, January 4, when passenger traffic is projected to peak.

A breakdown released by the airport operator shows:

  • 106 flights on December 30
  • 103 flights on December 31
  • 84 flights on January 1
  • 117 flights on January 2
  • 107 flights on January 3
  • 121 flights on January 4

The spike highlights the steady flow of air traffic through Tymbou during major travel periods, despite the airport’s status as illegal under international law and the Republic of Cyprus’ repeated objections to its operation.

With New Year travel in full swing, the numbers underline how holiday demand continues to drive flight activity to and from the occupied areas, even as the airport remains a longstanding point of political and legal dispute.
