Police in Paphos have arrested a second individual, a 50-year-old woman, in connection with an ongoing investigation into conspiracy to commit a felony, housebreaking, and theft. This follows the arrest of a 20-year-old man, with a third suspect still at large.
Assistant Police Operations Director Michalis Nicolaou reported that on June 16, a 28-year-old woman from Paphos lodged a complaint stating that her residence had been broken into between June 14 and 16. Various alcoholic drinks and gold jewelry valued at €3,000 were stolen. Investigations indicated that entry was gained through an unsecured door.
On June 17, a man attempted to sell gold jewelry at a pawnshop in Paphos. The clerk became suspicious that the items might be stolen, prompting the suspect to flee, leaving the jewelry behind.
Members of the Paphos CID examined the pawnshop and identified the 20-year-old suspect from Paphos, against whom an arrest warrant was issued. He was located and arrested at 4:20 p.m. the same day.
Further investigations implicated another individual in the burglary. On Tuesday, police searched the residence of the new suspect. The suspect was not present, but his 50-year-old mother was at home. During the search, part of the stolen goods and additional gold jewelry of unknown origin were discovered. The mother was unable to provide satisfactory explanations and was arrested for both housebreaking and illegal possession of property. Her son remains wanted.
The investigation is ongoing.
