A meeting in Dhekelia this week brought together officials from the Sovereign Base Areas Administration and the Republic of Cyprus, with both sides zeroing in on one shared goal: stronger cooperation to tackle crime and security challenges.

Cyprus Justice Minister Costas Fitiris met with British Bases Police Chief Steve Jupp and Political Director Fleur Thomas, along with senior officials, to discuss organized crime, issues related to crossing points, and ways to tighten coordination between authorities.

According to a statement from the bases, the talks also included visits to checkpoints, giving officials a firsthand look at how operations work on the ground.

Jupp thanked the minister for the visit, saying it showed both sides are committed to doing “everything possible” to keep people safe across the island. Thomas said the meeting helped lay the groundwork for practical, long-term cooperation and described it as an important first step since Fitiris took office in December.

Officials did not announce specific measures, but both sides signaled that more joint efforts could be on the way as they try to improve security coordination for the benefit of all communities.
