If your grocery bill still feels heavy, you're not imagining it, especially if your basket includes meat or a bag of Cyprus coffee.

According to the April Price Observatory from the Consumer Protection Service, the cost of fresh meat jumped by a notable 10.7% compared to March, while Cyprus coffee , a daily essential for many , rose 1% this month and has skyrocketed by 27.2% over the past year.

Seafood fans were also hit, with frozen shellfish and mollusks seeing the biggest monthly increase, up 14.1%. The price of baby food, bread, and even instant coffee also nudged upward, adding pressure on young families and everyday shoppers.

Yet it’s not all bad news at the checkout.

The report, which tracks prices for 250 everyday items across 400 shops island-wide, also showed that eggs dropped by 5.3%, evaporated milk fell by 6.7%, and cooking oil slid another 2.1%, bringing its annual decline to nearly 8%.

Other items that got cheaper include flour, rice, and yogurt, offering some relief to households trying to balance weekly expenses.

In total, 22 product categories recorded price drops, 21 went up, and two remained unchanged.

Meanwhile, the inflation rate dipped significantly to 0.2% in April, down from 1.6% in March, confirming that while prices are still shifting, the overall pace of increases is slowing.

Still, for Cypriot families feeling the pinch where it counts , at the butcher’s counter and the coffee shelf , the slowdown might not be enough.
