Authorities have reported a single, minor case of marine pollution involving petroleum products off the coast of Limassol, confirming that the situation was swiftly brought under control.
According to a statement issued Tuesday by the Department of Fisheries and Marine Research (DFMR), the incident occurred near the Moni area, east of Limassol. Response protocols were activated immediately, and anti-pollution measures were quickly put in place. The Cyprus Ports Authority later assumed responsibility for managing the incident.
“Thanks to the coordinated efforts of the relevant agencies, the pollution was contained effectively, with no impact on nearby coastal areas—aside from the possible brief appearance of scattered petroleum residue,” the DFMR noted.
Officials say daily inspections along the Limassol shoreline are ongoing, and no further signs of pollution have been detected so far. The department reassured the public that it remains on alert and ready to respond to any future developments as needed.
