Newsroom
Welcome to Monday, August 3rd, where the seasonal low-pressure system is still running the show and refusing to surrender its post. Right on cue, the Department of Meteorology has released Yellow Warning. As always, the clockwork precision of official heat safety is in full effect: keep your eyes peeled specifically between 14:00 and 17:00, when central inland temperatures will hit the magical 40°C mark.
Here is how today's thermal distribution breaks down across the island:
Inland plains: Pinpointed right at 40°C under clear skies.
West coast: Taking the top prize for coastal comfort at a gentle 31°C.
Remaining coasts: Resting comfortably (relatively speaking) around 34°C.
Higher Troodos range: Tops out at a pleasant 30°C.
Mornings start calm with light, variable breezes at 3 Beaufort. By afternoon, winds swing southwesterly to northwesterly at 3 to 4 Beaufort, though if you are stationed along the southern coast, expect things to get considerably livelier with localized gusts picking up to Force 5. Seas will hover between calm and slightly rough.
Clear conditions prevail through early evening, though localized stretches of low cloud cover will creep into select districts overnight. Winds ease down to a light 3 Beaufort, shifting northwesterly to northeasterly (and southeasterly along the northern shoreline). Sea state remains steady at calm to slightly rough.
Extended outlook
Tuesday: The forecast holds a carbon copy of today's heat, keeping temperatures above seasonal averages under mostly sunny skies.
Wednesday & Thursday: Clear skies give way to periods of increased cloud cover across the island. Temperatures finally take a slight downward step on Thursday, offering a long-awaited break in the steady 40°C stream.
