Police are investigating a fatal incident in Nicosia where a young woman riding on the back of a motorcycle was killed Sunday early morning.

Identifying information such as specific age and nationality were being withheld after police said they were still in process of notifying next of kin

According to local media, a woman in her early 20’s described as a foreign national was riding on the back of a motorcycle driven by another male, also foreign national in his late 30’s.

The incident took place early morning on Sunday, around 2:30am, when the motorcycle was moving on Athalassa Avenue in Strovolos and struck the guardrail, with the two individuals being ejected from their seat.

An ambulance rushed the man and the woman to the Emergency Room at Nicosia General Hospital, where doctors on duty pronounced the female passenger dead on arrival.

Knews has been told that the man, who was wearing his protective helmet according to officials, suffered multiple fractures and was being treated at the hospital. Reports said the woman was not wearing a helmet at the time of the incident.

Identifying information such as specific age and nationality were being withheld after police said they were still in  the process of notifying next of kin.

It was not clarified whether an arrest was made in the case, with police saying they were investigating the fatal incident.
