Police release photo of suspect in Nicosia Monday night robbery against man tied up


A 61-year-old man was robbed in his apartment in Nicosia on Monday night, after a male acquaintance tied him up at knifepoint following a night of binge drinking.

According to police, residents in an apartment building heard a man calling for help at 2:15am and notified authorities. Cops and fire fighters rushed to the scene and had to break the door down to gain entrance into the apartment, where they found the 61-year-old man tied up on the balcony floor.

The victim said his friend had threatened him with a knife and tied him up before leaving with stolen articles of clothing, jewelry, and an undisclosed amount of cash.

The two men, both Nicosia locals, reportedly had been drinking since 10pm while the incident took place just after 1am according to Cyprus News Agency.  

Police later released a photo of the suspect, approximately 25 to 30 years old, about 1,60m tall. At the time of the incident, he was wearing light coloured jeans, a grey shirt, and a light brown jacket.

Anyone who may have information that could lead to the suspect’s whereabouts is asked to contact authorities by calling CID Nicosia at 22.802.222, dialing the 1460 Citizen Hotline, or getting in touch with the nearest police station.
