Police carried out another night of intensified preventive operations across urban areas, resulting in nine arrests and hundreds of traffic violations, as part of an ongoing effort to curb crime and improve public safety.
The overnight operations focused on high-traffic and high-risk locations, with officers conducting targeted patrols, checks, and inspections. Authorities say the approach is part of a sustained nationwide strategy aimed at preventing serious offenses and maintaining public order.
Among those arrested was one individual for breaching a court order, while another was taken into custody for assaulting a police officer, public intoxication, disorderly behavior, and resisting arrest. Four arrests involved individuals staying illegally in the Republic of Cyprus. Another suspect was detained for illegal drug possession and possession of property believed to be unlawfully obtained. Two drivers were also arrested after refusing an alcohol screening and for driving under the influence of drugs.
Police also inspected 40 premises during the same night, leading to eight reports related to operational violations. These included unlicensed alcohol sales, breaches of business regulations, and smoking in prohibited public areas.
Traffic enforcement formed a major part of the operation. Officers issued more than 248 citations for various road offenses. In addition, 27 drivers were found to be under the influence of alcohol, while four others tested positive in preliminary drug screenings. Six vehicles were seized in connection with traffic-related investigations.
