A series of unrelated fire incidents were reported over the past two days in three different districts of Cyprus (Paphos, Limassol, and Larnaca), prompting the mobilization of the Police and Fire Service authorities.
In Paphos, a fire broke out in the early hours of Saturday, 3 January 2026. According to Police, at approximately 4:15 a.m., information was received regarding a fire involving vehicles parked within a fenced area in an industrial zone of the Paphos District. Police and Fire Service units responded promptly and extinguished the blaze. Initial examinations revealed that an articulated lorry and a towed caravan were completely destroyed, while a car sustained extensive damage. All three vehicles were owned by a 62-year-old man. The area was cordoned off, and further examinations are expected to be carried out during the day, with investigations continuing by the Paphos Criminal Investigation Department (CID).
In Limassol, the Fire Service was placed on alert on the evening of Friday, 2 January 2026, following two separate fire incidents. The first occurred a few minutes before 9:00 p.m., involving a car parked in an open area outside an auto parts shop in the Omonia area, where it had been left for repairs. Two fire engines responded, and the fire was brought under control. Following an examination of the scene, it was determined that the fire was caused by a short circuit, with damage confined mainly to the engine compartment. Later that night, at 11:53 p.m., the Fire Service responded to a second incident involving a moped that was parked in an open area elsewhere in Limassol. The moped suffered extensive damage, the exact extent of which has not yet been assessed.
Meanwhile, in the Larnaca District, a fire was reported on the morning of Friday, 2 January 2026, involving an outbuilding located next to the chapel of Agia Marina in the community of Avdellero. According to Fire Service spokesperson Andreas Kettis, the structure was constructed of wooden beams and sheet metal. As a result of the fire, the outbuilding collapsed. One fire engine responded to the scene and extinguished the fire.
Authorities have confirmed that the three incidents are separate and unrelated, and investigations are ongoing where deemed necessary.
