Cyprus fire authorities are investigating two separate vehicle fire incidents that damaged three privately owned cars in the districts of Nicosia and Larnaca within a 24-hour period.
According to the Fire Service, a car caught fire on Tuesday afternoon in the community of Pera Oreinis, Nicosia district, while it was parked in a covered area beneath a two-storey house. The owner managed to put out the flames with a garden hose before firefighters arrived. Although the blaze was contained quickly, the vehicle sustained significant damage to its engine area. Fire crews later carried out safety checks, ventilation, and final extinguishing, with two fire engines dispatched from Nicosia stations. Preliminary assessments suggest the fire may have been caused by a mechanical or electrical malfunction.
A second incident occurred shortly after midnight in Kiti, Larnaca district, where two vehicles parked in an open area were engulfed in flames. Firefighters used breathing equipment and water hoses to bring the fire under control. Both vehicles were extensively damaged, and two fire engines from Larnaca stations responded to the scene.
In total, the Fire Service handled 46 incidents during the past day, including 33 fires and 13 other emergency responses. Authorities have confirmed that a full investigation will be conducted to determine the exact causes of the vehicle fires.
