Police carried out a large-scale overnight operation across urban areas as part of an ongoing strategy to prevent serious crime, protect the public, and maintain public order. The intensified checks led to 11 arrests nationwide, along with numerous traffic violations and vehicle seizures.
Officers were deployed at strategic locations throughout the night, focusing on high-risk criminal activity. The arrests stemmed from a wide range of offenses, including weapons possession, burglary, drug-related crimes, immigration violations, and public order offenses.
Limassol recorded the highest number of arrests, with six individuals taken into custody for crimes such as possessing offensive weapons, breaking into a residence, holding counterfeit banknotes, illegal residence, and drug possession. Traffic enforcement in the district also resulted in the impoundment of six cars and two motorcycles.
In Paphos, police arrested three people for offenses including illegal entry into the Republic, carrying a knife, intoxication, and causing public disturbance. One vehicle was also seized during traffic-related investigations.
Two additional arrests were made in Nicosia and Famagusta for possession of burglary tools, unlawful possession of property, and drug offenses.
Alongside the arrests, police conducted extensive inspections of various premises to deter and suppress unlawful activity before it escalates.
Road safety checks formed a significant part of the operation. More than 900 drivers were stopped, leading to 120 traffic citations. Alcohol-impaired driving accounted for nearly half of the violations, while seven drivers tested positive during preliminary drug screenings.
Police said the operation is part of a broader, continuous preventive policing plan being rolled out across all districts. The initiative emphasizes visible police presence, targeted enforcement, and rapid response measures aimed at reducing crime and strengthening public confidence in safety efforts.
