Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif met in Islamabad to strengthen their countries' strategic partnership, reinforcing positions that directly challenge international law and Cyprus' sovereignty. In yet another provocative move, Erdogan praised Pakistan’s backing of the illegal regime in the occupied areas of Cyprus, while Sharif reiterated his country’s stance in support of Turkey’s ongoing violations of the island’s territorial integrity.

The two leaders focused on economic collaboration, aiming to increase bilateral trade to $5 billion and signing 24 agreements under the High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council. Erdogan also highlighted security cooperation, seeking Pakistan’s continued alignment with Turkey against groups such as the PKK, YPG, Daesh, and FETÖ.

On international issues, Erdogan repeated Turkey’s support for Palestinian statehood, while Sharif lauded Erdogan’s role in Islamic leadership, particularly regarding Gaza, Palestine, and Kashmir. Additionally, the Pakistani Prime Minister reiterated his country’s counterterrorism efforts and called for Afghanistan’s assistance in ensuring regional stability.

This meeting underscores Ankara’s continued diplomatic maneuvering to reinforce its illegal presence in occupied Cyprus while seeking international allies to legitimize its ongoing violations.
