The White House’s Valentine’s Day post that stole hearts (and possibly visas)

Nothing says 'Be mine' like a deportation notice

Martha Kehagias

Valentine’s Day is typically a time for chocolates, flowers, and sweet nothings whispered over candlelit dinners. But this year, the White House decided to spice things up with a bold, romantic gesture—by dropping a Facebook post featuring the floating heads of Donald Trump and Chief of Staff Jon Feere, hovering ominously over a pink background adorned with little hearts and the silhouette of the White House.

The poetic masterpiece at the center of this Hallmark-meets-border-patrol fiasco read:

"Roses are red, violets are blue,
Come here illegally, and we'll deport you."

Ah, nothing says Happy Valentine’s Day like the icy embrace of immigration enforcement. Cupid’s out, ICE agents are in.

In just one hour, the post racked up 25,000 reactions, 8,000+ comments, and more than 5,500 shares. That’s more engagement than most of us get on our actual Valentine’s Day texts. (Shoutout to the brave souls who double-texted anyway.)

Reactions ranged from outrage to sheer amusement, with many wondering if the White House’s social media team had been replaced by a group of edgy, meme-loving interns.

One commenter wrote:
"Roses are red, violets are blue. This was a bad joke, and so are you!"

Another took a more poetic approach, crafting an entire heartfelt essay about the irony of demonizing immigrants in a nation built by them. (Seriously, it was long enough to be turned into an audiobook.)

Meanwhile, others were here for the drama, with one comment reading:
"This is the WH page I’ve been waiting for!"

And of course, the ever-present Law and Order fanbase chimed in with:
"The law is the law, even on Valentine’s Day."

From sweethearts to ICE agents
The imagery itself was a thing of beauty—Trump and Feere’s heads floating in the pink abyss, gazing down upon us like omnipotent cherubs of border security. It was almost romantic in a dystopian way, like if George Orwell ran a greeting card company.

Some social media users were quick to note the contrast between the holiday’s theme of love and the post’s not-so-subtle deportation warning.

"I love when our government treats running the country like a joke," one person quipped.

Others, however, found the whole thing hilarious. "It’s just the truth," one supporter wrote, adding a touch of divine judgment: "As a Christian, I know there are laws and know they need to be followed."

Clearly, nothing says “love thy neighbor” quite like mass deportation policies wrapped in a pink Valentine’s Day aesthetic.
