Authorities in Barcelona issued a red alert warning of "extreme danger" as torrential rains continue to batter the area, with similar severe weather plaguing other regions of Spain, where search efforts are ongoing for missing persons.

At least 27 people have lost their lives in eastern Spain following days of heavy rains that triggered widespread floods, sweeping away nearly everything in their path. Rescue operations remain active six days later, with thousands of soldiers deployed to assist in finding an unknown number of missing persons.
As Valencia struggles to recover from the catastrophic flooding, the forecast remains grim for other parts of the country. Catalonia’s regional government warned of “continuous and torrential” rains expected in two areas, urging residents to avoid travel and stay away from streams and ravines.
The red alert for Barcelona cautioned residents against any travel "unless absolutely necessary."
Social media footage reveals staircases engulfed by intense rainfall and streets submerged in floodwaters.
Meanwhile, flights have been diverted from El Prat Airport as flooding has disrupted operations at the terminal building.
