Smart meters continue to roll out across Cyprus

Electricity Authority steps up island wide installation, from Nicosia to Protaras, aiming for smarter, more efficient energy use in every neighborhood.

Newsroom

The Cyprus Electricity Authority (EAC) is picking up the pace with its smart meter rollout, announcing that from Tuesday, installations will expand to more neighborhoods in all districts of the island.

This next phase comes on top of areas already announced, as EAC teams continue replacing old meters with new smart ones that allow for more accurate readings and real-time monitoring.

Where the work is happening:

Nicosia: Expect activity in parts of Aglantzia and Pallouriotissa, especially west of Ammochostou Avenue. That includes areas around Andrea Zakou, Ilarionos Street near the Aglantzia Industrial Area and SOPAZ, and surrounding streets such as Kantaras, Agios Andreas, Salaminos, and John Kennedy.

Limassol: Crews will be working in the center, specifically north of Pentadromos and in the blocks between Makarios III, Thessaloniki, Gladstonos, and Evagoras Christoforou Streets.

Larnaca: Installation teams will cover the area between Stadiou, Agios Lazaros, Zinonos Kitieos, and Grigoris Afxentiou Streets, extending to the Akademias traffic lights.

Paralimni: The focus is along both sides of 1st April Avenue—from Kokkinos Hypermarket to the roundabout heading to Deryneia. In Protaras, work is being done along the coastal stretch of Protaras Avenue up to the Narcissos Hotel.

Paphos: Smart meter installations are happening in the area southwest of the Stelios Kyriakides Stadium, bordered by major roads like Athinon, Griva Digeni, Apostolou Pavlou, Agion Anargyron, Spyrou Kyprianou, and Europe Avenue.

The EAC also noted ongoing work involving single-phase meters in parts of Paralimni and Protaras, especially around Giorki Papadopoulou Street, Cape Greco Road, and the Pernera area.

The shift to smart meters is part of a broader effort to modernize Cyprus' electricity grid, offering consumers real-time data, faster service in the event of outages, and more control over their energy usage. While the work might cause minor disruptions or brief power interruptions, the long-term benefits include fewer billing errors and a smoother energy experience.

The EAC has not provided specific dates for each area but said crews will continue installations across the island in the coming weeks. Residents are urged to cooperate with crews and reach out to the EAC for any clarifications.
