A boat with nine adults was spotted Tuesday morning off the coast in Akamas.

According to local media, nine presumptive refugees were picked up on Tuesday morning, after authorities spotted their boat in the water around 4:30am. Earlier reports said the boat had approached the area around 3am.

The boat, which was non steerable due to apparent mechanical problems according to Cyprus News Agency, was later pulled by the Coast Guard into a jetty in Latchi.

The nine migrants were reportedly all adults, according to CNA, while gender and other information such as country of origin were not immediately available.

Officials escorted the nine individuals to the local police station at Polis Chrysochous, where they could register and receive medical care. They were expected to be taken to Nicosia’s Kokkinotrimithia reception centre later in the day.
