Tampa man uses straps to protect home from Hurricane Milton

Will strapped house survive Hurricane Milton? Tampa man’s method raises questions

Newsroom

Tampa resident Mohammed Nijem has been called "legendary" after local media shared an image of his unconventional approach to protecting his home ahead of Hurricane Milton, as Daily Express US reports.

Nijem's preparation involved securing his house with six large yellow straps, which were fastened to the ground and stretched over the roof. The goal was to prevent the house from being blown away or damaged by the storm. A photo of the setup was posted by Spectrum Bay News 9, which wrote, "Viewer Mohammed Nijem is getting prepped for Hurricane Milton."

The post quickly went viral, amassing over two million views. Social media users expressed a mix of reactions—some praised Nijem for his outside-the-box thinking, while others questioned the effectiveness of the unusual method. One X user, @Draculatrading, commented, "Everyone is laughing now, but this man will be a legend when all the other houses are floating down the road and he’s sitting in his new living room swimming pool watching TV powered by a Starlink terminal."

Other users were eager to see if Nijem's strategy would work, with one asking the news station to post an after photo, and another remarking, "I mean, maybe he's on to something."

There has been no update yet on how Nijem’s house has fared in the storm, but thousands have bookmarked the original post, awaiting the outcome with curiosity.
