Police in Cyprus said Friday they have arrested a third suspect in connection with the killing of a businessman who was gunned down outside a cafe in Limassol last month.
The suspect, a 22-year-old man from Larnaca, was taken into custody after police obtained evidence linking him to the murder of Thanasis Kalogeropoulos, 55, on Oct. 30, police spokesman Christos Andreou said.
Two other men, a 41-year-old alleged shooter and a 44-year-old who allegedly sheltered him, were arrested earlier this week and are being held pending trial.
Kalogeropoulos, who owned a construction company, was shot multiple times by two assailants who ambushed him as he was getting into his car on the coastal road of Amathus, a popular tourist area in Limassol. He died at the scene.
Police said the motive for the killing was not clear, but they were investigating possible links to organized crime and business disputes.
An autopsy revealed that Kalogeropoulos suffered fatal injuries to his head, chest and abdomen from more than 10 bullets fired from a handgun, according to forensic experts Angeliki Papetta and Orthodoxos Orthodoxou.
