The 1st Cyprus-Greece High-Level Cooperation Council is taking place in Athens today, Friday, November 10.
Strengthening bilateral cooperation and coordination between the two countries constitutes the core objective of the Council, with emphasis on the exchange of best practices between Nicosia and Athens across the entire spectrum of governmental work.
Nine Ministers and Deputy Ministers of the Republic of Cyprus, and their Greek counterparts, will participate in the Council, which will be chaired by the President of the Republic of Cyprus Nikos Christodoulides and the Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis.
On Friday morning, bilateral meetings will be held between the Cypriot Ministers and Deputy Ministers and their Greek counterparts, in the presence of other officials, in order to establish objectives and timetables with specific milestones based on their portfolios.
Among the issues expected to be discussed at the Council are the effective management of migration, the strengthening of civil protection, the further deepening of defence cooperation, energy planning, further cooperation in school and higher education, the upgrading of cooperation in the fields of health, culture and shipping, as well as best practices in the coordination of government work.
After the conclusion of the bilateral meetings, at 12.00, the Ministers and Deputy Ministers of the two countries will participate to the plenary session of the Council, chaired by President Christodoulides and the Prime Minister Mitsotakis, during which all issues discussed during the separate sessions will be presented for final decisions.
At the end of the plenary session, statements will be made by the President of the Republic of Cyprus and the Greek Prime Minister.
