A desperate search is underway off the coast of Cyprus after a migrant boat capsized in international waters near Cape Greco, leaving at least three people dead and many still missing.
Rescue teams, led by the Search and Rescue Coordination Center (SRC), sprang into action after receiving distress reports. So far, two survivors have been pulled from the water—one rushed to Larnaca General Hospital and the other to Famagusta General Hospital for urgent medical care.
Authorities believe more than 20 people were on board when the boat sank. The Coast and Maritime Police, National Guard, and police helicopters have been deployed, scanning the sea and sky for any signs of life.
The Joint Rescue Coordination Center (JRCC) confirmed the operation began around 1:00 p.m. on March 17. The search effort includes a warship, an unmanned aerial drone, multiple police vessels, and emergency medical personnel.
As daylight fades, the race continues to locate any remaining survivors.
