Thunderstorms between Cyprus and Turkey

Meteorological reports from Kitas Weather noted that a group of intense storms developed between Cyprus and Turkey, generating significant lightning activity. The system was moving east–northeast, brushing past the Akamas Peninsula and parts of the island’s northern coast. Areas stretching from Akamas to Kato Pyrgos faced the greatest likelihood of rainfall and strong gusty winds produced by the storm downdrafts.

Current weather conditions

A weak low-pressure system is currently influencing Cyprus. Overnight, skies were partly cloudy, and scattered showers occurred mainly along western and northern coastal regions. Winds blew from the northwest to northeast at about 3 Beaufort, with calm to slightly rough seas. Temperatures dropped to around 12°C inland, 15°C on the coasts, and 9°C in the mountains.

Forecast

For Saturday, intermittent cloud cover is expected, with possible afternoon showers, especially over the mountains. Winds will shift from southwest to northwest, light to moderate at 3-4 Beaufort, and the sea will remain calm to slightly choppy. Daytime highs will reach approximately 26°C across inland and coastal regions and around 17°C in higher elevations.

Tonight, conditions are expected to clear, with light northwest to northeast winds at 3 Beaufort.

Sunday’s weather should be mostly sunny, while Monday and Tuesday will bring patches of medium and high cloud. Temperatures will stay steady through early next week, remaining slightly above seasonal averages.
