U.S. President Donald Trump lashed out at both Israel and Iran on Tuesday, accusing them of breaking a ceasefire agreement he had announced just hours earlier and saying the two longtime enemies “don’t know what the f*** they’re doing.”
Speaking to reporters before boarding Air Force One for a NATO summit in the Netherlands, Trump expressed frustration after reports of renewed missile fire and airstrikes, despite his efforts to pause the violence.
“ISRAEL. DO NOT DROP THOSE BOMBS. IF YOU DO IT IS A MAJOR VIOLATION. BRING YOUR PILOTS HOME, NOW!” -Trump
“Iran did. Israel did, too. I'm not happy with Israel...not happy with Iran, either,” Trump said. “They’ve been fighting for so long, they don’t know what they’re doing.”
Trump had announced late Monday that both sides agreed to a “complete and total CEASEFIRE.” But by early Tuesday, Israel said it had launched strikes on targets in Tehran while also accusing Iran of firing missiles that killed four people in the southern Israeli city of Beersheba.
Iran denied launching any missiles after the ceasefire went into effect, saying it had already responded to earlier Israeli strikes. The country’s foreign minister said Iran had no formal agreement in place and would only stop if Israel did the same.
Trump, who spoke directly with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, later posted a blunt message on his Truth Social platform: “ISRAEL. DO NOT DROP THOSE BOMBS. IF YOU DO IT IS A MAJOR VIOLATION. BRING YOUR PILOTS HOME, NOW!”
The White House said Trump was “very firm” with Netanyahu and made it clear the fighting must stop. Israel later said it would hold off on further attacks “in coordination with President Trump.”
The ceasefire, aimed at ending nearly two weeks of conflict that has killed over 1,000 people, was shaky from the start. Both sides blamed each other for violations just hours after it was announced.
For now, the airstrikes have paused, but the situation remains fragile.
