Turkey’s energy minister, Alparslan Bayraktar, has confirmed that Ankara is examining the construction of a natural gas pipeline in the occupied part of Cyprus. The project is still at the study stage, with engineering work being carried out by BOTAŞ.

According to Bayraktar, Turkey continues its energy exploration efforts in the Eastern Mediterranean and has not stepped back from activities in the region. He explained that any gas discovered in the area could potentially be transported to Turkey through a direct connection, with infrastructure links described as the key priority.

The minister also outlined Ankara’s intention to expand the international role of Turkish Petroleum Corporation. He pointed to ongoing operations in Somalia and suggested that further developments related to Libya will be announced in the future.

In addition, Bayraktar said Turkey is working with Syria in both mining and oil sectors, including discussions about resources located in the country’s northeast. He added that Turkey has recently signed offshore energy cooperation agreements with major global companies such as ExxonMobil, Chevron, BP, Shell, and TotalEnergies, while also referencing the involvement of Italy’s Eni.

He further mentioned that a separate agreement with BP is close to completion, describing it as a deal that could attract significant attention once finalized.
