Val Kilmer, the celebrated actor known for Top Gun, Batman Forever, and The Doors, has passed away at 65 due to pneumonia. His daughter, Mercedes, confirmed the news, noting that Kilmer had battled throat cancer since 2014, undergoing chemotherapy and a trachea surgery that impacted his speech and breathing.

Born in Los Angeles in 1959, Kilmer’s acting journey began early—he was one of the youngest students admitted to Juilliard. He started in theater before gaining fame in the 1980s with Top Secret! and Real Genius, but it was his role as Iceman in Top Gun that made him a household name. His career soared with films like Willow, The Doors, Tombstone, and Batman Forever, though his time as the Caped Crusader was short-lived.

Kilmer’s reputation was as complex as his performances. While admired for his talent, he often clashed with directors and co-stars. Despite this, many acknowledged his dedication, with director Joel Schumacher calling him the best Batman and others praising his depth as an actor.

In later years, Kilmer took on smaller roles and even starred in a one-man show as Mark Twain. He made a poignant return as Iceman in Top Gun: Maverick (2022), a nod to his lasting legacy in Hollywood.

Beyond acting, Kilmer explored politics and activism, even considering a run for New Mexico governor. He is survived by his children, Mercedes and Jack, who remember him as both a formidable talent and a beloved father.
