An increasing number of bounced checks were recorded by the CBC

The number and amount of unsecured checks reported showed an upward trend in the first five months of 2022

The number and amount of bounced cheques recorded in the Central Bank of Cyprus' (CBC) preliminary Central Information Register (CIR), showed an upward trend in the first five months of 2022, according to data released Tuesday.

In the first five months of 2022, 172 cheques with a total value of €838,109 were registered in the preliminary CIR, in relation to 133 cheques with a total value of €385,007 in the corresponding period of 2021.

The number and amount of bounced cheques registered in CIR increased in May 2022. Bounced cheques were 42 in May 2022, compared to 22 in May 2021 and just 9 in May 2020. The total amount of these cheques reached €91,888 in May 2022 compared to €87,432 in May 2021 and €13,008 in May 2020.
