Petroleum product sales in Cyprus rose sharply in January 2026, even as stock levels fell markedly, according to the latest figures released by the Statistical Service.

Total sales reached 118,460 tonnes during the month, representing an 11.2% increase compared with January 2025. Despite the yearly growth, inventories at the end of January were down by 33% relative to the end of December 2025.

The annual rise was driven primarily by a surge in marine fuel deliveries, which jumped by 175.3%. Fuel supplied to aircraft also grew notably, up 23.2%. Additional gains were recorded in heating oil sales (25.2%), liquefied petroleum gas (13.4%), and asphalt (13.2%).

Not all fuel categories moved upward. Sales of light fuel oil plunged by 62.3%, while heavy fuel oil declined by 12.1%. Motor diesel edged slightly lower, falling 1.6%. Gasoline demand was broadly unchanged, posting a marginal increase of 0.3%.

Retail activity at petroleum service stations also strengthened, with sales climbing 3.5% to 58,500 tonnes.

However, compared with December 2025, overall petroleum sales slipped by 3.9% in January. Month-to-month declines were recorded in fuel supplied to aircraft (-10.0%), gasoline (-13.1%), and motor diesel (-11.9%). In contrast, marine fuel deliveries continued to rise on a monthly basis, increasing by 15.6%.
