The Cultural Heritage Committee has completed restoration work at Saint Nicholas Church in Dhavlos and has begun conservation efforts at the Church of Panagia Faneromeni in Gastria, according to Sotos Ktoris, co-chair of the Technical Committee on Cultural Heritage.
In social media posts, Ktoris confirmed that restoration work at Saint Nicholas Church in Dhavlos, which was part of a monastery complex, has been completed.
The church is located on the northern slope of Pentadaktylos, near the summit where Kantara Castle stands. Ktoris described it as being “in an area of unique natural beauty.” The project was funded by the European Union and implemented by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), he added.
Ktoris also shared that restoration work has now started at the Church of Panagia Faneromeni in the occupied village of Gastria, in the Karpasia area. “This project is funded by the EU and the Gastria community and is being implemented under the technical guidance of UNDP,” he said.
These initiatives are part of the Cultural Heritage Committee’s ongoing efforts to preserve and restore churches and historic sites in areas affected by decades of division.
