A 5.3-magnitude earthquake struck the Mount Athos region Saturday afternoon, shaking parts of northern Greece.
The quake hit shortly before 4 p.m., with its epicenter located about nine kilometers (5.6 miles) west-northwest of Karyes, according to a preliminary report from the Geodynamic Institute. It had a focal depth of approximately 12.5 kilometers (7.8 miles).
The tremor was felt in several areas across northern Greece. A short time later, a 3.8-magnitude aftershock was recorded in the same area, at a depth of just five kilometers (3.1 miles).
There were no immediate reports of damage or injuries.
