A female officer of the Cyprus Intelligence Service (CIS) has been transferred to the Aliens and Immigration Department after Nikolette Andreou-Tsikkini filed a complaint alleging she received threats from the officer.
Tsikkini claims the officer sent her a message on August 19, warning, “Humble yourself or I will make sure to expose your dirty laundry,” after which she publicly disclosed the officer’s identity. Revealing CIS members’ identities is a criminal offense under the 2016 CIS Law, carrying penalties of up to five years in prison and fines up to €150,000.
The case is scheduled for review by the Parliamentary Committee on Human Rights on September 15. Committee Chair Irene Charalambidou said it raises broader questions about the responsibilities of services tasked with protecting citizens.
Police have limited comment, stating only that “the case is being handled by the competent authorities.” Legal proceedings regarding the disclosure of the officer’s identity have not been confirmed.
