Police have arrested a 37-year-old male driver in connection with a pile up accident in Nicosia, with reports saying he was driving while impaired.
According to police, the suspect was driving along Makarios Avenue in Nicosia on Tuesday early morning, around 1:10am, when his vehicle collided with the rear of another car that was moving in the same direction.
The second car, driven by a 23-year-old male, then slammed into a third car ahead, driven by a 21-year-old male, which was then collided with a fourth vehicle driven by a 19-year-old male.
Following the pile up, according to a police report, the 37-year-old driver fled the scene of the accident and was later apprehended by law enforcement officers. He was administered a Breathalyzer test with alcohol content showing 94μg, which is four times over the legal limit set at 22μg. He was arrested on the spot for driving under the influence of alcohol and fleeing the scene of an accident.
The circumstances of the accident were not immediately clear while police did not say whether alcohol impairment was a factor in the pile up accident.
