Heads up! Low-flying helicopters to clean power lines across Cyprus

EAC kicks off summer maintenance to prevent blackouts, don’t be alarmed by the chopper

Newsroom

The Electricity Authority of Cyprus (EAC) has announced that a helicopter will be flying low over towns and villages across the island from June 10 to June 30 as part of a scheduled maintenance program to clean high-voltage insulators on transmission lines.

This unusual sight is nothing to worry about; it's all part of the EAC’s efforts to prevent power cuts by keeping critical infrastructure in top shape. By washing the insulators, the EAC reduces the risk of faults that can disrupt electricity supply, especially during the hot summer months when demand surges.

The helicopter will follow EAC transmission line routes and fly over communities in all districts. Residents are advised not to be alarmed by the low-altitude flights. The cleaning is safe and necessary, and the EAC is working to complete it as quickly and efficiently as possible.
