Turns out, even divine parking spots aren’t safe anymore. In a scene that sounds straight out of a dark comedy, a Limassol priest’s car was stolen right outside his church, while he was inside leading evening prayers.
The incident unfolded on Sunday, October 5, during vespers for Saint Kendeas at Saint Anthony Church. The parish priest had parked his dark blue Mitsubishi Colt (plate number MNP 499) outside before the service. By the time he wrapped up the sermon, the car had, quite literally, vanished.
Word of the “holy heist” spread through social media, after a woman posted on the WHERE WE WENT Facebook group:
“A Mitsubishi Colt, dark blue, with registration MNP 499, was stolen on Sunday outside the church of Agios Antonios during the evening service. The car belongs to the parish priest. Please, if you see it, contact 99-401832.”
Commenters were quick to react, some offering sympathy, others suggesting the thief might want to start praying for forgiveness.
Police in Limassol confirmed that a formal complaint has been filed and an investigation is underway. Officers have already taken statements and are searching for the car and the suspect.
As one parishioner put it, “If you’re going to steal a priest’s car during vespers, you’d better hope karma isn’t real.”
For now, Father’s flock is hoping for a small miracle, or at least a good lead from the police.
