A man who was on trial in connection with an acid attack against his ex wife has been sentenced to ten years in prison.

According to local media, a 57-year-old Greek Cypriot male was handed down his ten year sentence on Monday after he was convicted in the acid attack against his former spouse, a 40-year-old Romanian national, back in November 2019.

During the heated exchange, the husband threw acid at his wife, causing her severe burns, before fleeing the scene

According to details in the case, the couple was still legally married but living separately when the husband visited the residence of a mutual friend in Zakaki, Limassol district.

During the heated exchange, while all three were present, it was reported that the husband threw acid at his wife, causing her severe burns, before fleeing the scene.

The wife was rushed to the Emergency Room at Limassol General Hospital where doctors said she suffered severe burns in 40% of her body.

Police tracked down the husband, who was arrested him hours later, with reports saying he admitted the offence.
