The Veterinary Services in Cyprus have clarified that they have not received any complaints about a specific livestock farm, despite claims made by the Movement of Ecologists - Citizens' Cooperation on February 1. In a statement, the Veterinary Services confirmed that there was no formal complaint regarding the farm from the organization or anyone else.
They further reassured the public that there was no health risk to humans from consuming pig meat linked to this incident. The issue, they explained, revolves around a violation of veterinary and environmental laws, but it does not pose a threat to public health or the safety of the meat.
The Veterinary Services and the Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment, in cooperation with the Police, are working together to investigate the matter. They plan to prepare a case file and submit it to the Legal Service for further legal action.
The statement emphasized that the focus of the violation was not related to the health of the animals, the conditions on the farm, or the cause of animal deaths. Instead, the case centers on the failure of the farm's management to comply with regulations on proper handling of animal by-products, specifically pig carcasses, in line with the veterinary and environmental laws.
