Police warn public: Banks will never ask for your PIN or security codes over the phone.

A 50-year-old man in Paphos lost €6,860 after falling for a phone scam by someone pretending to be a bank employee, police said.

The man, from the village of Emba, told authorities he received a call on his mobile phone that appeared to come from Revolut. The caller claimed there was suspicious activity on his account and warned that others were trying to access his money.

Offering to “protect” the funds, the caller asked the man to share personal details along with security and verification codes.

Believing he was speaking to a legitimate representative, the man handed over the information.

Shortly afterward, money was transferred out of his account. By the time he realized what had happened, €6,860 was gone.

The case has been reported to police, who are investigating it as online fraud.

Authorities are once again urging the public to be cautious. Banks and financial institutions, they stress, will never ask customers for PIN numbers, passwords or transaction confirmation codes over the phone.

If someone calls asking for that kind of information, even if the number looks official, hang up. Then contact the bank directly using its official website or app.
