The Municipality of Paphos is preparing a series of improvements in the Agios Antonios tourist district, targeting long-standing issues related to cleanliness, unauthorized structures, public facilities, and lighting.
Following an inspection involving municipal officials, engineers, and representatives of the district local government organization, acting mayor Angelos Onisiforou said authorities identified a number of illegal installations and neglected infrastructure that have affected the appearance of the area.
Among the first actions will be the removal of unauthorized pergolas and other structures that were erected without permission. Stone barriers currently placed at various locations will also be replaced with metal bollards.
The municipality is also planning extensive cleaning and maintenance work throughout the neighborhood as part of an effort to improve the area's overall appearance and upkeep.
Particular attention is being given to the public toilets, which are currently occupied and unavailable for use. Municipal authorities intend to restore the facilities and reopen them to residents and visitors, arguing that public spaces should remain accessible to everyone.
Additional improvements will include the installation of new lighting poles and modern light fixtures designed to improve visibility, safety, and functionality across the area.
Municipal officials say the goal is to transform Agios Antonios into a cleaner, more organized destination that better reflects its importance as part of Paphos' tourism sector.
