Police eye Rolls-Royce dashcam for clues in Stavros Demosthenous murder

Authorities investigate whether the luxury car’s built-in camera recorded the deadly attack in Limassol.

Limassol police are working around the clock following the murder of 49-year-old football agent Stavros Demosthenous on Oct. 17, in front of his 18-year-old son. Investigators describe the killing, just 500 meters from his home, as a highly professional hit, likely linked to a paid contract.

Demosthenous was riding in the passenger seat of a Rolls-Royce Spectre while his son drove when a white van in front slowed, its rear doors opened, and gunmen fired multiple shots.

Security cameras show the van fleeing down a dirt road before being found burned in the Germasogeia area, apparently in an attempt to destroy evidence. Investigators recovered shell casings and a hat from the vehicle. Police believe the attackers switched to a scooter, later found hidden in the grass along Limassol’s coast. Authorities say the perpetrators had been watching Demosthenous’ home for several days.

The investigation began with the arrest of a 44-year-old former footballer from Nicosia, linked to the escape scooter. He was placed under eight-day detention, claiming he had sold the motorcycle months ago and did not know of its use in the killing. Authorities also seized two mobile phones for examination.

Three more suspects, aged 58, 39, and 30, were arrested on Sunday evening, bringing the total in custody to four.

Police are searching multiple areas across Cyprus, aiming to catch both the shooters and those who ordered the hit. Police spokesperson Kyriaki Lambrianidou confirmed that searches extended to Central Prisons on Sunday evening.

The morning attack in a residential area and in front of the victim’s child highlights a shift in organized crime, now operating openly and in cold blood, alarming both authorities and the public.

Authorities are closely examining the Rolls-Royce Spectre, the company’s first fully electric model, which includes a built-in dashcam system that records 20–40 seconds of video during collisions, along with GPS and speed data. Police have asked Rolls-Royce for assistance to see if any footage might capture the movements of the attackers before or after the murder.

In addition, investigators are collecting DNA and fingerprints from the burned van and scooter, and analyzing hours of CCTV footage from around the crime scene.

Investigators say the case shows strong planning and organization, indicating the perpetrators were not acting alone. Authorities warn that the coming hours are critical to piecing together the full sequence of events.
