Energy Minister George Papanastasiou announced that key decisions regarding the electricity interconnection between Cyprus, Greece, and Israel will be made within August.
Speaking on RIK’s "Morning Routes," Papanastasiou noted that the Cyprus Energy Regulatory Authority (RAEK) is expected to issue a decision soon, following the latest data submitted by Greece's Independent Power Transmission Operator (ADMIE).
Papanastasiou confirmed that the project is progressing, with seabed surveys already completed on the Greek continental shelf. However, he cautioned that if the project proves economically unfeasible, its abandonment remains a possibility.
In such a scenario, Papanastasiou explained, the European Commission would need to appoint a new implementing agency to continue the initiative.
He emphasized the project's importance in ending Cyprus's energy isolation, adding that the Council of Ministers has already expressed strong support for its completion.
