A teenage girl in Paphos who was given a ride home by police officers was detained later on burglary charges, after she reportedly went back to the station to retrieve her phone.

Police say they are conducting a burglary investigation where the suspect is a minor, in connection with an incident at the Peyia police station, but gave no specific details citing privacy guidelines relating to juvenile offenders.

According to local media, police officers in Peyia, Paphos district, saw a 17-year-old girl on Sunday night who appeared to be intoxicated and proceeded to give her a ride home.

But after the young female was dropped off, she reportedly went back to the police station to retrieve her phone but was not able to get inside

But after the young female was dropped off, she reportedly went back to the police station to retrieve her phone but was not able to get inside.

Police told Knews they were looking at evidence of breaking and entering at the station, with access most likely gained over a fence gate while damage to glass at the entrance was also recorded.

Local media said the girl had gone to the station to retrieve her phone.

But according to Philenews, Paphos police officials said the officers were out on patrol when the girl arrived, suggesting they were no officers inside.

The young female was briefly detained Monday and could be facing burglary charges. But the decision as to whether she will in fact face prosecution was expected later on Tuesday.
