Cyprus is sweltering under extreme heat once again today, with temperatures expected to climb as high as 44 degrees Celsius inland, according to the latest orange warning issued by the Meteorological Service. The warning remains in effect until 5:00 p.m. Friday.
The weather will stay mostly clear, offering little relief from the scorching sun. Winds will be light at first, gradually picking up from the southwest to northwest at moderate strength, enough to rustle the trees but not enough to cool things down. The sea will be slightly choppy, so take care if you're headed to the beach.
Here’s a breakdown of Friday’s sizzling highs:
- Inland areas: 44°C
- West coast: 32°C
- Other coastal regions: Around 36°C
- Higher mountains: 34°C
Meanwhile, the Labor Inspection Department has ordered a midday stop to outdoor work due to the heat. Employers and the self-employed must pause any heavy or moderate outdoor labor, including deliveries, between 12:00 and 4:00 p.m. in lowland inland areas and the higher mountainous regions.
For those doing lighter work in areas not covered by the orange alert, the department reminds everyone to monitor heat and humidity and take proper safety steps, like rotating workers, taking frequent shady breaks, and avoiding strenuous activity during the hottest part of the day.
For questions or advice, you can contact the department’s district offices:
- Nicosia: 22879191
- Limassol: 25827200
- Larnaca: 24805327
- Paphos: 26822715

Finally, the Forestry Department has issued a Red Alert for fire danger, urging the public to be extra cautious. Starting a fire is a criminal offense with heavy penalties. If you see smoke or flames, call 1407 (Forestry) or 112 (Fire Service) immediately.
Looking ahead, expect more clear skies over the weekend and into Monday, with temperatures staying well above average. Stay cool, stay safe, and don’t forget to check on vulnerable family members and neighbors.
