Good morning, Cyprus! It’s September 11, a day remembered around the world. Here at home, though, we have our own headlines: a nationwide workers’ strike is scheduled for today, and if that isn’t enough drama, the heat is making a grand return.
Tuesday treated us to rain, thunder, and even a tiny tornado doing a cameo spin through Nicosia. Wednesday? Total snooze-fest. The skies went full “meh.”
Today, Thursday, the spotlight shifts to the workers. From 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., unions are hitting the streets demanding the cost-of-living allowance be added back to paychecks. And while passions flare, so will the mercury: inland highs will scorch at 37°C, the west coast will simmer at 30°C, other coastal areas will hit 33°C, and the mountains will offer a comparatively polite 29°C. Perfect conditions for a sweaty walkout.
Winds are gentle to moderate, and the seas are only a little restless. So, if you were hoping to dodge picket lines for a beach day, the weather is giving you a cautious thumbs-up. Tonight, the heat will take a break: temps drop to 22°C inland and 16°C in the mountains, letting everyone (and every air conditioner) catch a breath.
Looking ahead, Friday and the weekend promise the heat to stick around like that friend who never takes a hint. Skies will mostly be clear, with just a few decorative clouds, and temperatures hovering above seasonal averages. Summer in Cyprus clearly isn’t done with us yet.
So, for Thursday: honor the day globally, avoid strike chaos if you can, drink plenty of water under the relentless sun, and maybe keep an eye out, just in case Tuesday’s tiny tornado decides to RSVP again.
