Get ready for a wild day of weather! The Meteorological Department has issued a yellow warning for isolated severe thunderstorms this Wednesday, running from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Buckle up, because these storms are expected to hit mountainous areas, inland regions, and the eastern parts of the island, bringing heavy rainfall and, yes, hail during the storms. Winds will pick up too, shifting and strengthening throughout the day. Rain could come down hard, with up to 55 millimeters per hour in some places, so stay alert!
What’s the weather got in store?
A weak low-pressure system and some unstable air will be making things interesting today. And from Friday onward, dust will be floating around in the atmosphere, so the air might feel a bit thicker than usual.
The morning starts off mostly clear with some scattered low clouds, especially along the coast. But don’t get too comfortable! By midday, the clouds will gather, and local showers and isolated thunderstorms are likely, especially in the mountains, inland areas, and the east. Expect some hail during the storms too! Winds will start off light to moderate, coming from the southwest to northwest (3 to 4 Beaufort), but they’ll get stronger in the afternoon along the coast (up to 4 to 5 Beaufort). The sea will be a little choppy, especially in the west and south, but calm to slightly rough in the east. Temperature-wise, it’ll be a warm 27°C inland, around 26°C on the eastern and southern coasts, 24°C on the western and northern coasts, and a cooler 19°C in the mountains.
Tonight, clear skies for the most part, but you might notice some low clouds over the western half of the island. Winds will stay light (around 3 Beaufort) in inland and eastern areas, and moderate (3 to 4 Beaufort) along the windward coasts. The sea will calm down a bit in the east, but stay slightly rough elsewhere. Temps will drop to around 16°C inland and along the coasts, with a chilly 9°C in the mountains.
Thursday is shaping up to be mostly clear across the island, though there will be some clouds here and there. From midday onward, expect a few isolated showers, mostly in the mountains. Friday will bring sunshine for the most part, but with some high clouds drifting by. Saturday will stay mostly clear, but those high clouds will start to thicken up, turning into mid-level clouds as the day progresses.
Temperatures are expected to remain fairly steady until Friday, hovering around seasonal averages. But come Saturday, look out for a noticeable temperature rise, pushing things above the usual levels for this time of year. Perfect weather to enjoy the weekend ahead!
