Labour office employees have been swamped with applications for wage subsidies due to the coronavirus pandemic, including one case under the name of “Queen Elizabeth.”
According to Reporter, employees at the labour office have been working around the clock in order to cope with a heavy workload.
A research fellow at the Labour department, Fanos Kouroufexis, said about 2000 paychecks were returned to sender because employers had included wrong or invalid addresses or did not include postal codes.
The woman was finally called in and reportedly corrected the name on her application during an appointment at the labour office
There were also cases where applicants had included names that were either not actual or not fully accurate.
In one case, the name on one application was “Queen Elizabeth” while in another case, a name was written as “Kokos Kokou” according to Kouroufexis.
It later turned out that Elizabeth was indeed the correct name of the applicant, “but she was no queen” Kouroufexis added.
The woman was finally called in and reportedly corrected the name on her application during an appointment at the labour office.
Labour Minister Zeta Emilianidou previously stated that employees at the office were finding mistakes on applications including invalid bank account or routing numbers, with staff trying to follow up to make sure the correct information could be submitted.
The deadline for six government wage subsidy plans is set for May 20, with the second month installment expected before the month is out.
